Control solutions for spiders

Spiders are easily recognisable by their eight legs. Some people happily accept their presence while others can’t bear the thought of them.

There are over 35,000 species of spiders globally but only about 650 are found in the UK and these are not considered dangerous and are not pests.

However, If you import goods from around the world there may be an occasion when an unusual spider species is brought onto your property. We can provide a spider inspection and monitoring solution for your business to identify specific species that may be an issue and provide advice on how to spot the early signs of an infestation, to enable quick and effective targeted treatment if necessary.

Learn about spiders

Spiders are casual intruders and generally do not pose any life threatening incidences in this country.

  • Tengenaria Gigantea (a house spider) These spiders can be big, well at least for the UK. The females can reach a size of 18mm in body length. They are mainly found on houses and gardens but also under logs and holes in banks especially in the southern parts of England.
  • Tegenaria Domestixca (a house spider)This is another common spider found around the house and has a yellowish/brown carapace with faint marking on the abdomen similar to Tengenaria Gigantea. It can be found throughout the year and capable of surviving up to 4 years. Usually found within buildings or sheds. Common in most parts of England but more are recorded in the midlands

There is no specific treatment and/or advice to prevent spiders getting into properties.

We advise brushing down webs from buildings if you locate any and spray treatments can be applied but will have limited results.
