Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I have a swarm of wasps which have just appeared around my house / chimney pot.  What can I do as I/my child is allergic to wasp stings?

A. Firstly, the good news is they are not wasps.  Wasps do not swarm.  Only honey bees swarm and they do look very similar to wasps from a distance.

The bees are most likely just resting and should move on to another location.  If they persist after a couple of days, you may have to consider treatment.  Due to the legislation for the control of feral honey bees, it could be a costly exercise.  We would recommend a survey and the use of a beekeeper.

Q.
I have bees going under my shed / in a compost heap, etc.  Can you come out and kill them?

A. These will be bumble bees and the answer is ‘No’.  We try our utmost to advise various ways of how to live in harmony with them.  They are not aggressive and very unlikely to attack even when provoked.  We can attend and re-locate them at a cost and depending on accessibility.

Q.
I think I have rats or mice living in my loft and I can hear them through the night.  Can you come and get rid of them?

A. Firstly we would have to establish they are rodents.  Secondly determine which rodent; mice, rat or squirrel.  The methods of treatment will vary on all 3 but the costs stay the same.  The local technician will explain how and where he/she thinks they are accessing your premises.

Q. I have pigeons living in my trees / bushes or neighbours conifers and they are messing all over our washing and patio area.  Can you come and shoot them?

A. No.  Due to government legislation and guidelines, along with public awareness, it is not good to be seen holding a weapon in public.  We would use bird scaring methods first before even considering using traps / cages.

Q. Once you have treated wasp nests, will they come back to the same place next year?

A. No.  Wasps never re-use existing / old nests.  They will always build and use new nests.

Q. I think we have fleas.  I’m not getting bitten but my child and spouse are.  Can you come and fumigate them?

A. Firstly, we do not fumigate.  Fumigating is carried out by using a poisonous gas which is not used in this country for the treatment of fleas.  We would use a water-based insecticide which can be an organic spray or a more residual contact spray.  There are several procedures that need to be addressed before treatment commences; treating the animal at the vets, removing clutter from floors and vacuuming carpets, floor boards, lino etc.

Q. I have had ants in several areas of my house for weeks now.  I have tried sprays and powders but still keep getting them.  What can you do?

A. We can assess as to why you are getting them and then either use baits or water-based sprays which will guarantee eradication.

Q. I’ve got bald patches on my carpet and keep finding what looks like fluffy grains of rice?

A. Sounds like you have carpet moth but could also have carpet beetle.  There are various treatment options available depending on the extent of activity.  Call for a free, no obligation site survey.

Q. I have millions / thousands of flies in my loft and some of my bedrooms.  I think that something must have died in my loft?

A. Hopefully unlikely!  It sounds like you have cluster flies looking to hibernate.  We can use smoke bombs, fogging and spray methods.  This treatment would be subject to survey before any treatment commences to ensure no bat activity!
